#1 · Nov 30, 2009 Hey guys, I'm new to the group, but I like what I've read so far. I've seen dozens of cool mods and articles. I was looking at SLK's for my girlfriend, and I wanted to get the 230 so as to take advantage of the MPG. I've heard stories as high as 32 or 33 MPG. But, a few folks have discouraged me from looking at these.

Based on a W202 C-Class chassis, the R170 SLK is a compact luxury roadster, fitted with a folding hardtop, and an available AMG model topping the range. Notable variants include the SLK200, SLK200 Kompressor, SLK230 Kompressor, SLK320 and the SLK32 AMG. Produced until 2004, the R170 was replaced by the second generation SLK, the R171.

The Mercedes-Benz SLK230 Kompressor was a variant of the R170 SLK-Class that debuted for the 1997 model year. The SLK 230 Kompressor was fitted with Mercedes' M111.973 engine, which was a 2.3L supercharged inline four. This engine produced 190hp until 2001, when Mercedes introduced their upgraded M111.975 unit, which boosted power to 195hp.
