The tower was built on the site of the medieval Torre del Esperò Reial. It has a circular base and is made up of two large sections that are connected by a staircase carved into the thick perimeter wall. In 1412, Alghero's women heroically defended this tower against attack by troops of the Viscount of Narbona. In the 19th Century it became known as the Torre di Sulis after the notary.
